WHERE IS PUNTA MITA?

Punta Mita is located in Riviera Nayarit, just a little north of Puerto Vallarta, on the Mexican Pacific coast. The word “Mita” might have come from the ancient Aztec word “Mictlán”, meaning “gateway to paradise”, which feels very appropriate when you visit this magnificent community, with its manicured tropical gardens, white sand beaches and turquoise waters.

HOW TO GET TO PUNTA MITA

There are a few options for travelers to get to their vacation in Punta Mita. The first and most popular is to travel by air to the Gustavo Diaz Ordaz International Airport and book a car to get you to your resort or villa.

There is also the option to sail across to your destination by boat. In this case, guests will arrive at Marina Vallarta and arrange a car or shuttle to drive them to their retreat. The trip from the marina to the main resort area is less than an hour of travel time.

HOW FAR IS PUNTA MITA FROM PUERTO VALLARTA?

Punta Mita is located 25 miles, approximately 40 km, North West from Puerto Vallarta. If you are traveling by taxi or car the trip usually takes 1 hour and the road is in very good condition and is safe. By bus, a full trip usually takes around 2 hours with the additional stops. If you are looking for adventure and entertainment outside of Punta Mita, you’ll find plenty of it in Puerto Vallarta.

HOW FAR IS PUNTA MITA FROM SAYULITA?

Sayulita is a hippy-chic surfing town home to a great community of artists and designers, making it a great shopping destination for those looking for authentic colorful souvenirs. This beautiful surfer town is a little over 10 miles, or 17 km, from the neighboring town of Sayulita. In light traffic, the drive takes about 30 minutes.

If you venture into Sayulita, be sure to visit the Galeria Tanana, where you can find authentic Huichol crafts for sale'. If you are more into modern design, don’t forget to visit Evoke or La Revolucion del Sueño, for all types of great pieces, from clothing and jewerly, to home decor.

From January to July, Punta Mita is in the Winter and Spring seasons. These months have favorable milder weather, which is great for outdoor exploration.

If you are to visit from August to September, there are fewer tourists due to Summer temperatures, however, if you don’t mind a warmer climate, this time is great for a getaway without any crowds.

The highest temperatures come from October to December, but with luxury air-conditioned estates with stunning pools, this is not an issue for laid-back travelers.
